FAQ’s about health insurance Health insurance policies differ widely, but most will provide cover for health care at any properly licensed health care facility. In most cases payment is made by the client first, then the client will submit the claim to the insurer, who will, if the claim is approved, remunerate the client some time later. Some insurance companies have arrangements with larger health care providers for direct payment allowing the client to not have to pay all or part of the expense up front. Unfortunately to enable this relationship to work necessistates a team of clerical staff to handle claim submission, and debt collection if the claim is denied, which is something that happens all too frequently. Insurance companies can make complicated rules about what their policies cover. For example, some policies will cover vaccines, but only certain types of vaccines. Some will not cover non-prescription items like skin lotion, and some are very particular about any problem that may be present from birth. This makes it entirely impractical for small health care providers like ours to have bilateral arrangements with insurance companies. Regrettably therefore, we will not be able to have direct arrangement with insurance companies in the foreseeable future.
